Environmental Responsiveness

As a medical device manufacturer closely related to human health care, NSK has been dealing with the environmental issues since early years by original measures to prevent environmental impacts and obtained compliance with the requirements of ISO 14001 in 1991. NSK believes that contribution to protection of global environment is an important and integral part of the quality of our products and is making increased efforts to reduce environmental impacts based on the Environmental Policies.

<Environmental Policies>
NSK, a manufacturer of a wide variety of products utilizing ultra high-speed rotational technologies in mainly dental field, enforces global environmental preservation based on the following environmental activities in all business activities: product development, manufacturing, sales, and service so that we can reduce impacts on the globe and realize healthy and affluent society in harmony with nature.

1. Continuous improvement for pollution prevention and saving energy and resources
2. Compliance with all environmental laws, requirements and voluntary standards
3. Reduction of environmental impacts in all business activities
4. Consideration for the natural environment around the manufacturing site

History of the NSK environmental protection program

Jun 1996 Complete abolition of chlorofluorocarbon fluid, which is an ozone-depleting substance.
Jan 1998 Started Environmental Impact Research by establishing unique standards on environmental impact substances used within the company. In addition, launched a company-wide activity aimed at eliminating losses of resources, energy, etc.
Other activities include sorted collection of wastes, light-out during periods of non-use, and paper recycling.
Sep 1998 Went beyond the emission standard for smoke and soot by installing a new high combustion Ace Plaza II incinerator.
Nov 1998 Went beyond the industrial wastewater discharge standard, such as for polishing treatment solutions and maintained low values by installing Coagulation sedimentation biological waste treatment equipment.
Jan 1999 Acquired certification of ISO14001; International Environmental Management Standards.
Sep 1999 Released carp and minnows, which can only live in clear water, into a neighboring stream, where industrial effluent is discharged, and started a water quality patrol initiative to check their inhabitation.
Apr 2000 Completed the abolition of organic solvents of water-polluting hazardous materials (methylene chloride).
Feb 2002 Completed abolition of Super millstream, which is subject to PRTR.
Oct 2002 Established a compact incinerator required by law to deal with dioxin contamination.
Jul 2005 Completed compliance with the "Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive".
Jul 2006 Completed compliance with the "Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive".
Sep 2007 Trichloroethylene is an organic solvent to eliminate the first kind, was used as a wash part.
Mar 2008 Septic tank capacity to improve with increasing number of employees, set up a tertiary treatment septic tank. This maintains the substantially clear effluent water quality standards septic tank.
May 2008 To completely eliminate the emission of air pollutants such as dioxin, with the elimination of small incinerator.
Dec 2008 Completely revised its environmental policy.
Feb 2009 CNC Building (F Wing) monitoring equipment installed to manage the maximum power demand in reduced power 50kw contract.
Oct 2010 Automatic control panel systems were installed for operating compressors so that they could work more efficiently, which resulted in 3% reduction of electricity consumption (96,600KWH less per year) in all manufacturing buildings.
Dec 2010 256 solar panels were installed on the wall of HQ building. They generate 31,000KWH electricity and reduce12 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, which would be absorbed by 3.3 ha of forests.

The system to visualize electric power called “Eco Wise” was introduced for leveling and saving power.
